On this date, I went to the
“Feira Nova” hypermarket in
Torres Novas, with the aim
of collecting the images
recorded by the video
security system installed at
that establishment with
regard to an adult and a
child that were at that
location on 06-05-2007 at
about 20.50, as it was
presumed that the child
could be Madeleine McCann,
missing from the Algrave
since 03-05 of this month.
I contacted the manager of
the hypermarket, Sr Tavares
who immediately facilitated
the viewing of the images,
saying that he was aware of
the subject as he had been
contacted by the Torres
Novas GNR.
From the security camera
monitors I could observe a
man and a female child doing
some shopping at the
hypermarket. The images did
not allow for a clear
visualisation of the girl’s
face, but it was possible to
note that she was aged
between 3 and 5 and had fair
hair of shoulder length. All
the “action” took place
normally, and it appeared
that the adult and the child
had family links, judging by
the way the girl moved
around, e.g. sometimes she
was at the adult’s side
without holding his hand. It
was not possible to observe
the number plate of the
vehicle used by these
persons, it appeared to be a
dark red old style Ford
Fiesta.
The manager of the
hypermarket promised to
deliver a digital copy of
the video images in
question.

INFORMATION
On 6th May 2007, at about
22.30, a telephone call was
received by this GNR post,
made by Sra Batista,
resident of Torres Novas,
informing us that at the
Feira Nova hypermarket in
Torres Novas, at about 21.00
she thinks she saw the
missing girl Madeleine,
accompanied by a man.
According to the witness,
the man had a three day
beard, was wearing jeans and
was aged about 30-35, she
could not provide any more
of his characteristics.
We contacted her at 08.30
today, in order to check the
veracity of the information,
she stated that she
accompanied the individual
with the girl to the check
out, trying to enter into
conversation with her,
suspecting her to be the
missing girl, as she was
very similar in appearance
and the man replied that the
girl was not speaking
because she was shy.
Inquiries were made at the
establishment, by means of
checks of the security
cameras, which confirmed
that between 20.50 and 21.05
on the 6th May 2007, a
vehicle (not yet identified)
arrived at the centre, with
the individual and the girl
described above, who entered
the establishment, remained
for 10 minutes and left by
the same door, getting into
the vehicle and leaving in
the direction of
Entroncamento.

I inform you
that today, at about 10.40, this police station was contacted by
María Pereira who said that last Sunday (06-05) in the Quinta
das Conchas metro station, she saw two Brazilian women, one of
them carrying a female child, who corresponded to the
description of Madeleine McCann.
She adds that
the girl appeared to be “dozing” (she appeared sleepy but
managed to keep her eyes open) and she saw that the girl had
identical blue eyes to those on the posters distributed with
regard to the girl in question.
As regards
the Brazilian women she can only say that they were dark haired,
young, one of them aged between 25-28 and the other between
27-32.
That is all I
have to bring to your knowledge.

that today at about 14.30 a phonecall was received by this
police station, made by a female individual, who identified
herself as Julia Silva Pereira, the owner of a commercial
establishment situated in Nazaré, who said that one of her
clients told her of a sighting on the 06-05-2007 in Sitio da
Tornada, on the Nazaré – Caldas da Rainha road in a tree
sheltered area where cars tend to stop to rest.
According to
her client, one of the cars belonged to a foreign couple, who
were accompanied by two small children, a boy and a girl, who
appeared to her to be the missing girl from Lagos, when she
tried to confirm her suspicions, the couple in question got into
the car with the children and immediately left the scene.

accompanied by a tall and well dressed individual at a bus stop
in Valencia, Spain.
The family member, upon seeing the photos of the missing girl
from Lagos, thought that she might be the girl he saw in Spain.

At 18.40hrs on Thursday 16th August 2007, and individual from
the UK made direct telephone contact with the duty officer
within the PJ Office at Portimao regarding some Crimestoppers
information. The contact number given was 0044 161 28xxxxx.
On Friday 17th August 2007, at the request of Chief Inspector
Tavares de Almeida, I made a telephone call to this number and
spoke with a male who gave me the following contact details : -

He wished the PJ to be aware of the following information that
he stated he had already given via Crimestoppers : -
Information :
3 days after Madeleine was reported missing Mr Taylor was on
holiday in Rhodes with his wife and states that he saw Madeleine
McCann with a man and woman in the village of Trianda. The girl
was wearing a blond coloured wig and the girl looked up at him.
He states he is 95% certain that this was the missing Madeleine
McCann.
He describes the male as a white male, about 6ft tall, with
blond coloured hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt.
He described the female as having a mediterranean complexion,
about 5' 2" tall, with dark coloured hair.
He stated that this couple reminded him of the people he had
seen in the media who had been re-interviewed by the Portuguese
Officers.
3 weeks after this alleged sighting Mr Taylor states he was
again in Rhodes where he saw this couple enter a house within
the village of Trianda. The windows of this house were closed
with the shutters down. He saw a motorbike outside this house,
which was situated near to a dual carriageway.

Caller was at Alicante Airport on Sunday 6th May and thinks she
saw Maddy - She was with a white male & female - She tried to
talk to little girl who had beautiful sad eyes, but couple who
would make no contact moved out of the way - Said little girl's
hair needed combing - Wearing a pink T-shirt with motif on and
she believes grey trousers of some kind. Female was early 50's,
blond/grey hair which was short to the neck, carrying a
jacket/coat over her arm. Male was early 50's and wore glasses.
Caller was walking from the Business Lounge to Gate 4 & said the
couple were heading towards Gates 5-7 (She thinks).
Caller felt it suspicious as couple would not make eye contact
and seemed determined that the little girl did not speak to her.

At 1300 hours on Sunday 6th May 2007, I went to the 'GRILL' in
Broadstairs Highstreet for a meal with my husband. We have been
coming to the Grill every now and then but are not regular. I
sat at the table near to the side road of Peirmonts Motor
Company. I was facing the side door with my husband having his
back turned to the front door. There was a table opposite me
that was empty. I noticed a male and female come into the cafe
with a small female child. All three of these persons sat at the
empty table opposite me with the young female girl sitting with
her back to me. I would describe the
young girl as no more than four years old, proportionate in
build, dark skin as though she had been on holiday and caught
the sun. I cannot remember what type of clothing the girl was
wearing but do remember she had a jacket on. I thought it was
strange that this little girl had a thick jacket on as the
weather was mild. It was not cold outside as I was only wearing
my suit. The girl had blonde hair that was pinned up with parts
spiking out. At no point did I hear the girl say anything, she
appeared not to speak to the two other persons who were with
her.
I would describe the male in company with the girl having dark
hair. He was balding on top with a short-cropped hair style.
This male had a thick, puggy nose, was tanned as though he lived
in a hot country. He did not appear British and looked more
Spanish. The male laughed occasionally but I did not hear him
say anything. I could only say he was wearing an anorak.
The female who was with the girl was in her middle 20's, she had
pale skin, skinny build. She had blonde hair that was pinned up,
wearing a floral dress, however, I do not know what colour. I
was so intrigued by the child I was looking over at their table
to catch another glimpse of the little girl. The male and female
moved table as though to protect the girl's identity.

When the waitress attended their table the female with the male
said, "This is our little visitor", and then ordered food. The
child did not say anything at this point. My food arrived and we
continued to sit at the table for another 30 minutes.
I got up from the table to leave with my husband and the female
with the child was leaning over and I think trying to protect
her from my view.
The amount of time I viewed the child was 50 minutes. The
distance from me to the child was about 6 meters.
The visibility was good and there was no smoke from smoker's
cigarettes. There was no obstruction blocking my view.
I have never seen these persons before and have no reason to
know them. I would be able to identify all three of these
persons again.
I have later been told by my husband that the person we saw
inside the cafe arrived in a large 4x4. This 4x4 was new,
coloured black with very dark tint windows. Inside the back seat
was a pink cushion, but that's all he said.
I do not wish to add anything further to this statement. I have
read the statement which was written in my presence by PC 12075
CASTLE, at my home address, on Wednesday 13 June 2007.

Regarding Maddie McCann Investigation -
Mr STEPHEN CONNEELY, who is currently on holiday in the
Alejandria Hotel, El Arenal, Majorca, believes he saw Maddie
McCann with a male on Sunday 6th May 2007, at approx 1630 hrs.
He was in the Queen Vic pub in El Arenal watching the Arsenal vs
Chelsea football match when he saw a male dragging a screaming
child past the pub. Mr Conneely's wife remembers the little girl
had shoulder length hair.
He will be in Spain until Wednesday 16th May 2007, when he
returns home late in the evening.
ACTION TAKEN :
Mr Stephen Conneely is in Hotel Alejandria, 14, Antas D'Ulla, El
Arenal, 07610 El Arenal, Majorca.
# He will return home late on 16th May 2007. His home telephone
number is 024766xxxxx, (He does not have a mobile phone he can
use, with him at the moment), but he can be contacted at his
Hotel.

On page 315 is a handwritten
note =COTA= (official
addendum) dated 7 May 2007
by an Inspector, whose name
I cannot decipher from the
signature, in which he
states that he interviewed
the informant (the
boyfriend) who said that the
child's hair was cut short
'by/at the ears', i.e. not
down onto the shoulders.
The Inspector also
interviewed the train
conductor who verified the
presence of a couple with a
child who was crying, and
that the child responded to
calling from the woman whom
he took to be the mother.
The couple appeared (to him)
to be east European in
origin. They boarded in
Portimao [west of Faro] and
disembarked in Olhao
[east of Faro].
The Faro PSP (city police)
inspected all the passengers
on the train when it stopped
in Faro.

that at about 10.15 this police station received a phone call
from Sr Cardoso, who told us that yesterday (06-05-07) at 19.30,
when his son Marcelo Cardoso and his girlfriend were at the
Ferreiras train station, they saw a couple which was accompanied
by the missing girl take the train in the direction of Faro.
According to
Sr Cardoso his son and his girlfriend made this known to Loulé
GNR. However, and in spite of that situation, he also decided to
bring this to the knowledge of the PJ.
His son can
be contacted on ***** with the aim of providing other elements
to the investigation.
Meanwhile, it
has been established that the Loulé GNR has informed this police
station about the fact, on the same day, and this information
has been communicated to Portimao DIC.

by this police station made by a male individual who identified
himself as Joaquim Maia, a resident of Trofa, user of mobile
phone number **, who said that a member of his family who works
in Spain, on the date 06-05-2007, saw a fair haired girl,
accompanied by a tall and well dressed individual at a bus stop
in Valencia, Spain.
The family member, upon seeing the photos of the missing girl
from Lagos, thought that she might be the girl he saw in Spain.

Madeleine McCann ? If so who did they search with ? (Names and
descriptions req'd, please)
* Does any other evidence exist, such as mobile phone pictures,
video, holiday photographs, CCTV, etc ? If so arrange for it to
be downloaded/copied, exhibited correctly, CCTV to be stored and
viewed locally. Inform incident room of reference numbers and
result of viewing.
* Would witness recognise person(s) again ? Would they be
suitable for e-fit ? If so make necessary arrangements to
capture image.
* Obtain full vehicle descriptions, including registration

The attached letter was handed to Coleraine Police on this date,
reporting a potential sighting of Madeleine Mccann on the P&O
Troon to Larne Ferry, 1005hrs on 7th May 2007.
Witness is Mrs Rita HUGHES, dob 16th January 1945, housewife of
xx, POxxxxxx ROxx, Portstewart, Co. Londonderry, Northern
Ireland. Tel 028708xxxxx.
Mrs HUGHES previously reported her potential sighting to CEOP
Website but failed to receive any acknowledgement of her
communication, therefore is now reporting the same sighting via
her local Police. Mrs HUGHES appears of sound mind and has no
criminal record.
I have confirmed that CCTV cameras operate on the Ferry, however
is no longer available on the date in question as cameras record
to harddrive which is overwritten on a continuous cycle of
approximately 6 weeks.

Statement of Mrs Rita HUGHES.

Sometime ago I sent a letter to the CEOP Website regarding the
sighting of a child who resembled Madeleine Mccann, on the Troon/Larne
Ferry on 7th May 2007 - the Ferry left Troon at approximately
10.05 a.m. on what was quite a busy Bank Holiday weekend.
I do not know whether or not they received my submission so I am
now re-sending it.
I watched a child for several minutes at a distance of about 25
feet who facially resembled Madeleine McCann in some of her
photos - the ones which show her with an angular shaped
jaw-line. This child had dark eyelashes, a pale skin and the
little puffs under her eyes which Madeleine has in some of her
photos. Her hair was of similar length and style to that of
Madeleine's - I earlier said it was shorter but at that stage I
was thinking of the one taken in the football shirt and not the
one of her taken on the day of her disappearance. It was not as
shiny - but it wouldn't be if she hadn't had it washed in a few
days - as in her photos and appeared to be dirty fair colour
with a fringe falling to the right and the rest behind her ears
falling to about shoulder length. She was wearing blue
bib-fronted trousers and a little blue denim jacket.
I was aware of the news about a child being missing in Portugal
but as I had been at a wedding over the weekend had little time
to absorb the details of when exactly she disappeared and
therefore was sort of in shock at seeing this child and somewhat
incredulous that it could be her so I watched her thinking, "It
couldn't possibly be her. She couldn't possibly be here in this
space of time and why would she be in Troon of all places ?"
I also wondered if she was a bit small for Madeleine as it is
difficult to tell her height from her photos but I'm still not
sure whether she was or not.
I was seated on the deck where the "Poet's Bar" and the shop
are, in the first booth in the seating area, separated by a
partition from the stairs leading up from the shop. When I saw
the child she was on her own on a little corridor that runs
across from the "Ladies" and is backed by a wall and moving
along it away from the top of the stairs laughing impishly back
at someone in the stairs area. Then she stopped, seeing that the
corridor went no further as it sort of doubled back on itself,
and stood hesitantly for a moment looking back towards the
stairs.

that today at about 12.20 this police station was contacted by
telephone by an individual who identified himself as Filipe Reis
and who said that for the last 2 minutes ago near to the Faro
railway station there had been a Jeep, model Cherokee, dark
coloured and with a “yellow” number plate, inside of which was a
man aged about 50/55 with white hair, a woman of the same age
and a girl on the back seat who, although he did not see her
well, could have been the missing girl (Madeleine).
I immediately
went to the railway station in question, but did not see any
vehicle with the characteristics described.
Various taxi
drivers present at the scene were approached but none of them
had seen such a vehicle at the site.

I took a call at 18.30 local time ( 17.30 UK time) from Mrs
WURTHEIM of Wurzberg, Germany. She had just seen pictures of the
missing girl ( presumably on German television). She said she
had seen a girl fitting her description at Palma Airport,
Mallorca, on Monday 7th May 2007. approx 13.00-14.00.
She was accompanied by 'peculiar looking people' - one 'manly
looking' woman and an elderly woman. The girl was wearing an
over-sized coat and carrying a rucksack. Mrs Wurheim said she
had noticed the three because they looked suspicious. The girl
did not seem to have a familial relationship with the adults.
She had seen them a number of times between the car park and the
departure area. Mrs Wurheim said she was a portrait painter witn
an excellent memory for faces.

I inform you
that on this date at about 20.30 a phonecall was received from
number 23 *****, from an anonymous individual, with a Brazilian
accent, who said he was calling from Vouzela.
He informed
us that on 7th May 2007, at about 17/18.00 he saw a dark blue
Fiat car, a two seater, with its canvas top slightly open, he
does not know the number plate, heading for the Vouzela pools.
The driver
appeared to be looking for road signs to a place or location.
Inside the
car, as well as the driver, whom he would describe as being
about 1.70m tall, middle aged, with short but sticking up hair,
brown complexion, was a blonde girl, who was lying down (asleep)
on the seat next to the driver.
He found it
strange as normally children do not travel in the front seat and
the girl was asleep, lying down.
In his
opinion, the driver of the car was looking for a camping site.

received a phone call from PSP San Domingos de Rana from Officer
D's saying that he had received an anonymous phone call at
13.05 communicating the possible whereabouts of the missing girl
in Praia da Luz, Lagos.
This phone call was made by a female individual, with a
Brazilian accent, in a tone denoting great nervousness, only
informing that the girl was in a house in Rua Gajilo o Gajido,
no. 68 situated in Luz or its immediate surroundings.
This police force immediately informed Portimao DIC, namely
Inspector Cid, who asked to be sent this information via fax.

Following the disappearance of madeleine McCann in Portugal,
there have been two further sightings reported in Spain.
1. At 1500hrs 27th May 2007, at Galamal, Benalmadena Costa,
Malaga, it is reported that a male and female were being rough
with a child before throwing her into the back of a large grey
4x4 vehicle, registration number 83xxxx (Portuguese?)(sic) and
driving away. This is a CrimeStoppers call with no caller
contact information.
2. A caller named Elizabeth Schultz from Spain, tel 6372xxxxx,
reports that she may have sighted the missing girl three weeks
ago on the beach at La Zenia Beach, Costa Blanca, Spain.
REQUEST :
We request in all cases that any possible witnesses be traced,
local enquiries be made to trace any further witnesses, and any
CCTV be preserved.
In respect of incident 1. can vehicle be circulated via the
SIRENE Network to be traced, and any keepers to be interviewed.
In respect of incident 2. can the caller be contacted for any
further details that may assist the enquiry.

have the attached two reports of a sighting on a Ferry from
Spain to Morocco. (One is anonymous CrimeStoppers, so they may
be the same source). can we ask for Spanish enquiries with the
caller in Malaga and at the Ferry Company and port at Tafifa and
can we ask the Moroccans to complete an enquiry at their end.
Can we clarify which way the Ferry travelled, the two reports
differ ? As always, can any CCTV be preserved pending further
requests.

Les would like to report a possible sighting of madeleine on 7th
May 2007, at approx 1500hrs, he was on a Ferry from Tangier,
Morocco, to Tafifa, Spain. He saw a young girl very similar in a
Dark Blue Saloon, No VRM. He thinks if you check this out and
you should be able to obtain the number. The vehicle was from
Portugal and had their VRM plate on. Boat Company was FRS and is
the only one that does that service to Spain.

Statement : We were on holiday in Majorca, 1st - 8th May. We
were at the news-stand and read the headlines about Maddy. On
8th May we visited Portal Nous harbour behind the Dolphin Park.
This is a very up-rated area with luxury yachts and good living.
We went in a coffee bar called The Cappachino. I noticed a man
with a little girl, 3-4ish. I looked at them because they looked
a little scruffy for the area. He was the image of James Hewitt,
greyish hair with a reddish tinge but of an unkempt appearance.
The little girl was dressed as a boy. Shorter hair, beige combat
trousers, pink T-shirt and bottle-green cardigan. It was a hot
day, so her clothes looked out of place. She was playing with
Russian Dolls. She'd got very dark shadows under her eyes and
looked poorly, little snubby nose. I felt the man and child
seemed estranged, he kept grumbling at her a bit. Man late 40's
+. A woman came along, late 30s ish, dressed smarter with
shoulder length straight dark bob. I thought she may have been
the child's mum, but the child didn't react to her and she
didn't go to the child, she just said, "hello you". She fed the
child some lettuce from a sandwich. The child did sit on the
woman's knee and they were doing numbers in French, but I felt
they weren't French.

When I got home I thought more and more about this and it
worried me. A boat would be an ideal way of leaving Portugal. I
felt this child had very much a McCann family resemblance,
especially the nose.
